Former Commonwealth Games champion Shreyasi Singh was selected in the Indian shooting team for the Paris 2024 Olympics by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on Friday.

Shreyasi Singh will compete in the women’s trap event after the NRAI’s request for a Paris 2024 quota swap was approved by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).

The NRAI exchanged the women’s 10m air pistol quota for women’s trap after Manu Bhaker had aced the national trials in the women’s 10m air pistol and the women’s 25m pistol, freeing up a quota in the pistol for shotgun events.

The 32-year-old Shreyasi Singh will make her Olympic debut in Paris. She won the gold medal in the double trap event at the Commonwealth Games 2018 at Gold Coast and was part of the bronze medal-winning double trap team at the Asian Games 2014, held in Incheon.

With the inclusion of Shreyasi Singh, the size of the Indian shooting team for the Paris Olympics is now 21. It is India’s largest-ever shooting contingent at the Olympics, eclipsing the 15 from Tokyo 2020.

Joining Shreyasi in the shotgun events are Rajeshwari Kumari (women’s trap), Prithviraj Tondaiman (men’s trap), Anantjeet Singh Naruka (men’s skeet), Maheshwari Chauhan (women’s skeet) and Raiza Dhillon (women’s skeet), who were named in the Indian team on Tuesday.

In addition to the six-member shotgun team, eight Indian shooters will compete in rifle events while seven will participate in pistol events. India’s team for the rifle and pistol events was announced on June 11.

India will also field five mixed teams - two each in rifle and pistol and one in the shotgun skeet event.

Shooting events at the Paris 2024 Olympics will be held at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre from July 27 to August 5.
