Australia goes one-two in women’s 200m freestyle, led by Mollie O’Callaghan taking gold and setting a new Olympic record of 1:53.27. Ariarne Titmus followed with a silver, touching the wall in 1:53.81. Hong Kong, China’s Siobhan Bernadette Haughey earned bronze with a time of 1:54.55.

In one of the most anticipated matchups of the Games, all eyes were on O’Callaghan and Titmus, as the two had unfinished business following Australia’s Olympic swim trials in Brisbane leading up to the Games, where Titmus beat O’Callaghan, setting a new world record time and breaking O’Callaghan's previous record.

But the Olympic Games were to be O’Callaghan's victory as she kicked in the afterburners on the final lap to to overtake Titmus and clinch the win, setting the new Olympic record, beating the previous mark of 1:53.50, which had been set by Titmus at Tokyo 2020.
