After the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games will take over from August 28 to September 8. Unsurprisingly, it's the Olympic venues that will be used to award the thousands of Paralympic medals. Here's an overview.

It was a desire. In 14 days' time, the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games, the very first to be held in France, will open, and the vast majority of competitions will take place in venues already used for the recently concluded Olympic Games. While 35 were used during the Olympic period, 18 will be on deck from August 28 to September 8.

Many Olympic stadiums will be given a new lease of life, while Clichy-sous-Bois will host the Para road cycling events and La Courneuve the start of the Para marathon events (with a finish at Les Invalides).

Paris 2024 Paralympic Games: back to the iconic stadiums of the Olympic Games

The site of Léon Marchand's exploits during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and of the water polo finals, the Paris La Défense Arena retains its 50-meter pool in this transition to the Paralympic Games. During the flagship Paralympic competition, it will host the Para-swimming events, where 141 gold medals will be at stake.

In addition, several iconic Olympic venues will be reused for Paralympic competitions. The Grand Palais will play host to Wheelchair Fencing and Para Taekwondo, the Stade Roland-Garros to Wheelchair Tennis, the Pont Alexandre III to Para Triathlon, the Champ-de-Mars Arena to Para Judo and Wheelchair Rugby, and the Invalides to Para Archery, the Eiffel Tower Stadium for Cécifoot (notably after covering the sand on the volleyball court with a floor), the Château de Versailles for Para equitation, the Stade de France for Para athletics and the Bercy Arena for Wheelchair Basketball.

At the same time, seated volleyball will take place at the North Paris Arena, para-canoe and para-rowing at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium, para-badminton and para-weightlifting at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena, boccia, goalball and para-table tennis at the South Paris Arena and para-cycling at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome. The only events to be held outside the Paris region will be in Châteauroux Shooting Center, in the Para sport shooting category.

Finally, the Parc Urbain located on the Place de la Concorde during the Olympic Games is currently being transformed to host the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on August 28.
