The world’s 110 best triathletes will compete at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 from 30 July to 5 August.

Forty-two nations have qualified to compete across three events, the men’s individual race, the women’s individual race and the mixed relay. Each consists of a 1500m swim, a 40km cycle and a 10km run. The mixed relay made its debut at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

The event will begin on a floating pontoon near the Pont Alexandre III bridge for the swim portion in the Seine river. Next, athletes will cycle a course through the centre of Paris, before concluding with the run, which will track back through the city to the finish line on Pont Alexandre III bridge.

Norway’s Kristian Blummenfelt took home gold in the men’s individual at Tokyo 2020, finishing the race in 01:45.04. Alex Lee of Great Britain came second with a time of 01:45.15, followed by bronze medallist Hayden Wilde of New Zealand who completed the race in 01:45.24.

In the women’s individual, Flora Duffy of Bermuda took home gold with a time of 01:55.36. Great Britain’s Georgia Taylor-Brown took home silver with a time of 01:56.50, and Katie Zaferes of the USA claimed the bronze in 01:57.03.

In the mixed relay, Great Britain took home the gold with a time of 1:23.41, thereby claiming a medal in all three events. The United States took silver with a time of 1:23.55 and France finished with the bronze in 1:24:04.

Since triathlon’s introduction at the Olympic Games Sydney 2000, athletes from Great Britain have won the most gold medals (three) and total medals (eight). Swiss athletes have won five medals overall, two being gold, and Australian athletes have claimed five total medals with one gold.

Triathlon stars to watch at Paris 2024 Olympics

France’s LĂ©o Bergere will be one to keep an eye on at Paris 2024, looking to win the nation’s first-ever triathlon gold medal. Bergere enters the Games No. 1 in Olympic men’s qualifying rankings. His compatriot, Dorian Coninx, will also take part in the men’s triathlon despite breaking his wrist in a bike crash in Yokohama. He is the reigning world champion. The French team won bronze in the mixed relay during Tokyo 2020.

The aforementioned men’s individual silver medalist, Yee, won a test event on the Paris course in August of 2023, which could provide momentum for a strong showing at the Olympic Games. Similarly, Great Britain's Beth Potter won the test event for the women’s individual race and became the first esports triathlon world champion in Singapore in 2022.

Duffy, Taylor-Brown and Zaferes will all look to be on the podium once again in the women’s individual after strong showings in Tokyo. The same applies for Blummenfelt, Yee and Wilde in the men’s individual.

Csongor Lehmann will represent Hungary at Paris 2024, entering the games as a junior and Under-23 world champion and ranked in the top 10 of the World Triathlon standings.

Taylor Knibb is a versatile athlete who was a member of the United States’ mixed team relay that took home silver in Tokyo, where she was the youngest woman to qualify for a US triathlon team.
