Indian duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will take the court in the men’s doubles badminton competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics from July 27.

Chirag-Satwik are the reigning Asian and Commonwealth Games champions and will be looking to win their maiden Olympic medal in their second Summer Games appearance.

On their Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, Satwik-Chirag were ousted in the men’s doubles group stage. Despite racking up two wins, including a victory against eventual champions Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin of the Republic of Korea, the Indian pair could not make the knockout stage.

The Indian pair, however, has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the last few years, having won a bronze medal at the 2022 world championships and gold medals at the Commonwealth and Asian Games.

The duo also helped India to a historic Thomas Cup win in 2022 and became the first Indian doubles team to become world No. 1 in badminton world rankings. Sat-Chi has also won seven BWF World Tour titles since their Tokyo exit, including the 2023 Indonesia Open, a Super 1000 tournament.

Currently ranked third in the world, Satwik-Chirag are seeded third in the men’s doubles tournament at Paris 2024 and have been drawn in Group C alongside the Indonesian pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto, ranked seventh in the world.

Germany’s Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel and world No. 43 French pair Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar complete the group.
