Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen will make her much-awaited Olympic debut in Paris 2024 at the North Paris Arena on July 28.

Zareen, a two-time world champion, missed out on representing India at Tokyo 2020 after losing the trials to the legendary Mary Kom.

The Indian boxer has since won two boxing world titles, a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal at the Asian Games last year.

At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Zareen will face Maxi Carina Kloetzer of Germany in the round of 32 bout. But the two-time world champion could come up against the People’s Republic of China’s Wu Yu, the reigning Asian Games champion, in the round of 16.

Wu Yu, the top-seeded boxer in the women’s 50kg at Paris 2024, is also the reigning world champion in the women’s 52kg division. Nikhat is the world champion in women’s 50kg.

The 28-year-old Zareen is one of the top boxers in her weight category but enters the boxing tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics boxing tournament unseeded.

The seeding system relied on the results of the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit’s sanctioned continental qualifiers with eight boxers seeded in each of the 13 Olympic weight categories.

Champions at the Asian Games, the Boxing African Qualifier, the European Games, the Pan American Games and the Pacific Games and the three silver medallists from these five Games, based on on-field results and a random draw, were seeded in the top eight.

Algeria’s Roumaysa Boualam, Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Buse Naz Cakıroglu of Turkiye, Brazil’s Barbosa de Almeida and Australia’s Monique Suraci - all champions in their IOC-sanctioned continental events - complete the top five seeds in respective order.

Pan American Games silver medallist Jennifer Lozano of the USA is seeded sixth. French boxer Wassila Lkhadiri and Thailand’s Chuthamat Raksat are seventh and eighth, respectively.

Boxing at the Paris 2024 Olympics will be held from July 27 to August 11. The bouts will be hosted at the North Paris Arena till August 4 before the action shifts to the iconic tennis venue of the Roland-Garros Stadium from August 6 after a day’s break.
