Paris 2024 Olympics: How to watch Team GB diving star Tom Daley live – full schedule
A fifth diving medal for Tom Daley at his fifth Olympics? It certainly has a nice ring to it, but the Team GB star is not putting any pressure on himself at Paris 2024.
Having burst onto the scene at Beijing 2008, Daley has been in the Olympic spotlight for more than half of his life, and now the 30-year-old is making history.
As well as being a flagbearer for Team GB in Paris, he becomes the first British diver to compete at five Olympic Games, and having snatched the 10m synchronised diving gold with Matty Lee at Tokyo 2020 last time out, this year Daley is out to defend that crown with current partner Noah Williams.
That would be some achievement for Daley, who also has three bronze medals in his collection but is about to enjoy what he describes as his “biggest achievement” yet.
Tom Daley: ‘My gold medal is seeing my family by my side’
Daley had stepped away from diving in 2021 after the last Olympics to focus on family, but in the end, family is exactly what convinced him to make a remarkable comeback just two years later.
“It took me going to the Olympic and Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs actually, where at the end, there's this video of what it means to be an Olympian. And it took me completely off guard," Daley said.
"I had quite an emotional response as my son ... said to me that he wanted to see me dive in the Olympics. And, of course, when your children say that they want you to do something, whether it's getting back into the pool and training for the Olympics, you do it.”
Daley officially returned in December, winning gold with Williams at the British National Diving Cup, with the pair then outlining their credentials on the global stage when clinching the sliver at the World Championships in February – qualifying for Paris 2024 as a result.
It means Daley will be competing in front of an Olympic crowd for the first time since Rio 2016, having won gold and bronze behind closed doors in Tokyo.
And with that gold medal already safely back home, he is not putting any pressure on himself this time around, and relishing the prospect of diving in front of his family – particularly his two sons.
"(At Tokyo 2020) there was none of that excitement outside of the pool, which made it very focussed, but also made it very intense, whereas this time I think lots of athletes are looking to really soak up the experience. But for me, going into this in terms of expectations, I just want to be able to go out, show my best," Daley said.
"My biggest achievement is to be able to dive in front of my husband and my two little kids."
Tom Daley’s diving schedule at Paris 2024
Daley is competing in the 10m synchronised diving with Williams on Monday 29 July.
The event will take place in the Aquatics Centre at 11am local time – 10am in the UK.
The British duo are one of eight pairings for the 10m synchronised diving, with Yang Hao and Lian Junjie the favourites heading into Monday.
The People's Republic of China pair won gold ahead of Daley and Williams at the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships in February for their third straight world title.
“The Chinese diving team is the strongest diving nation, unquestionably,” Daley said.
“On paper, you would probably consider them to win every single event, but it's the Olympic Games, and I know that every single one of the Chinese divers knows that it's their competition to lose, which brings a lot of pressure, a lot of expectation.
"I think you go into a competition with a different mindset if you know that you could and should win, so I think the rest of the world is very much on China's heels to be ready to challenge them.”
