Paris 2024 Olympics golf, India schedule: Aditi Ashok leads India’s four-front challenge on the greens
Four Indian golfers will be in action at the Paris 2024 Olympics from August 1 to August 10.
Aditi Ashok, Diksha Dagar, Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar will be the four Indian golfers who will tee off at the Le Golf National in Guyancourt near Paris.
A total of 120 golfers - 60 men and 60 women - will feature in the golf tournament in Paris.
Aditi Ashok, an Asian Games silver medallist, narrowly missed a medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and finished fourth in the women’s golf event in Japan.
A five-time Ladies European Tour (LET) winner, Aditi is set to make her third straight Olympic appearance. She made her debut at Rio 2016, finishing a credible T7.
Former Deafalympics champion Diksha Dagar, meanwhile, will make her second Olympic appearance at Paris 2024. The 23-year-old became the first golfer to compete in both the Olympics and the Deaflympics when she competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
However, both of India’s representatives in the men’s golf tournament at Paris, Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar, will be making their Olympic debuts.
A former Asia No. 1, Shubhankar Sharma became the youngest Indian to win on the European Tour after his Joburg Open title in 2017 as a 21-year-old. Shubhankar also clinched the 2018 Maybank Championship title for his second European Tour victory. He finished 32nd at the Asian Games in Hangzhou 2023.
Gaganjeet Bhullar is an 11-time Asian Tour champion with the Indonesian Masters in 2023 being his latest triumph. The 36-year-old is also the Asian Games 2006 silver medallist.
Golf featured in the Olympic programme in 1900 and 1904 but was dropped from the itinerary following that. The sport made a return at Rio 2016 and has been in the Olympics since.
The USA are the most successful golfing nation at the Summer Games with 13 medals - five gold, three silver and five bronze.
No Indian golfer has won a medal at the Olympics.
