Paris 2024 Olympics Australia schedule today, July 29: Ariarne Titmus vs Mollie O’Callaghan duel for 200m fly title, hockey teams and Opals in action
Australian swimmer Ariarne Titmus will be eyeing to complete a rare double successful Olympic title defence when she lines up for the women’s 200m freestyle final at Paris 2024 on Monday, July 29.
The ace Dolphin successfully defended her women’s 400m butterfly title on Saturday and will back herself to add to Australia’s Paris 2024 Olympics medal tally at the Paris La Defense Arena on Monday as well.
Though her arch-rival, USA’s Katie Ledecky, won’t be a part of the medal race, Titmus’ biggest threat will possibly come from closer to home, in fellow Dolphin Mollie O’Callaghan.
O’Callaghan, just 20, is a rising star and already has four Olympic medals, including three golds, to her name but all of them have come in relay events, including a top podium finish in the 4x100m women’s freestyle relay at Paris 2024.
Trust the youngster to go all out for a maiden individual swimming medal on Monday and give her senior compatriot a tough run for her title. O'Callaghan famously beat Titmus to become world champion in the event last year.
Kaylee McKeown and Ella Ramsey are also set to begin their Paris 2024 campaigns on Monday.
The Kookaburras and Hockeyroos will also be in action when they take on Ireland and Great Britain, respectively. The Opals also begin their quest to end a 12-year-long medal drought and take on Nigeria in their opening match.
Set to play the quarter-finals, the Australian rugby sevens team will also be eyeing to confirm a medal match for themselves.
Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur, who pulled out of the singles competition, is set for his Olympic debut when he takes to the clay courts of the Roland Garros with childhood friend Alexei Popyrin. The duo takes on fourth-seeded Americans Austin Krajicek/Rajeev Ram in the opening round.
