A total of eight medal events will be on the cards for Australian athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympics on August 1, Thursday.

Australian athletes, so far, have already won 16 medals - seven gold, six silver and three bronze - at Paris 2024.

Swimming has accounted for most of Australia’s medals at the ongoing Summer Games with 10 and the Dolphins will look to add more to Australia’s Paris 2024 Olympics medal tally today.

The women’s 4x200m freestyle relay will be the highlight event of the day for Aussie swimmers the big guns, including Mollie O’Callaghan and Ariane Titmus, both already Olympic champions at Paris 2024, expected to take to the pool for the event in which Australia have never finished outside the podium since Athens 2004.

However, the Dolphins haven’t won gold in the women’s 4x200m fly relay since Beijing 2008. They were beaten to the gold by the USA at London 2012 and Rio 2016 before finishing behind the People’s Republic of China and the Americans at Tokyo 2020.

The Dolphins have already pocketed the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay gold with an Olympic record and will be hoping for a fly relay sweep at Paris 2024.

Abbey Lee Connor and Elizabeth Dekkers will also be representing some Dolphin interest in the women’s 200m butterfly final. Jenna Strauch is in the second reserve for the 200m breaststroke final.

Athletics events also kick off from Thursday with the 20km race walk events. Australia’s Rhydian Cowley, Kyle Swan, Declan Tingay will be in action in the men’s race while Rebecca Henderson, Jemima Montag, Olivia Sandery will be looking for a podium finish in the women’s event.

After some excellent work in the qualifiers, Ruby Pass will be hoping to bring in Australia’s first-ever artistic gymnastics medal when she competes in the women’s all-around final late in the day.

The Roswellas, meanwhile, will be out to defend their men’s fours rowing title. Alexander Hill is the only member of the champion quartet from Tokyo 2020 in the team.

Olivia Price, 31, will be looking for her second Olympic medal when she competes in the Paris 2024 women’s skiff with 21-year-old Evie Haseldine, whose dream to become an Olympian, incidentally, was ignited by Price’s silver from London 2012.

Timothy Anderson will be paddling in the men’s single kayak canoe slalom event today.
