Paris 2024 taekwondo: All results, as Kim Yujin of Republic of Korea battles her way to gold in women’s -57kg
Kim Yujin of the Republic of Korea beat Nahid Kiyanichandeh of the Islamic Republic of Iran 2-0 to win gold on Thursday, 8 August at Olympic Games Paris 2024 in the women’s taekwondo -57kg category.
Korea has now 13 gold medals at Paris 2024, tying the country's previous Summer Olympic Games gold medal record that was set at Beijing 2008 and tied at London 2012.
For the 23-year-old Kim, who had previously won gold in this weight class at the 2021 Asian Championships, this was her first Olympics.
Earlier Thursday, Canada's Skylar Park beat Lebanon's Laetitia Aoun in the first of two women’s -57kg bronze-medal matches. This was Park's second Olympic appearance and prior to the Games, she had won gold at both the 2023 World Taeknowdo Grand Prix and the 2023 Pan American Games.
Bulgaria's Alizadeh Kimia, a bronze medallist for the Islamic Republic of Iran at Rio 2016 who also competed for the Refugee Olympic Team at Tokyo 2020 where she finished fifth, defeated Luo Zongshi of the People’s Republic of China to win her second career Olympic bronze.

Kim is now the second Korean to take a gold medal in taekwondo in Paris after the nation failed to win a medal in the sport at Tokyo 2020. Park Taejoon won Korea’s first gold of the Games on Wednesday, 8 August, beating Gashim Magomedov of Azerbaijan in men's -58kg.
"I am so proud to be a member of the Olympics, and it's my first Olympics, so it's quite meaningful for me. Preparing for the Olympics, the exercise and all the training is quite hard, but I tried to be calm during the Games and I think this [is the biggest]) reason why I can gain the gold medal," Kim said. "I am really grateful about all of the spectators from Korea, and actually this is kind of my child[hood] dream [to win the gold medal]."
Park, the 25 year old from Canada, was aiming for gold but was ecstatic with her bronze medal.
"I don't think it's sunk in yet, but when that final buzzer went off, it was just pure joy and gratitude for what we've been through as a team and my family and everything all combined," Park said.
