The -57 kg judo Olympic final saw a rematch of the 2024 world final just a few months prior, as Canada's Christa Deguchi faced the Republic of Korea's Huh Mimi once again.

This time, the stakes were higher than ever, and it was Deguchi who came out on top, taking the gold medal at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

After becoming Canada's first world judo champion in 2019, Deguchi struck again, becoming Canada's first Olympic judo champion.

Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Sarah Leonie Cysique won yet another judo medal for France, this time in front of an adoring home crowd at the Champ de Mars Arena in the heart of Paris.

Haruka Funakubo of Japan took a tactical victory over Rio 2016 Olympic champion Rafaela Silva to take the other -57 kg bronze.

"It's been a long journey to get here, and 50 per cent I believe it and 50 per cent I can't believe what I've done," an elated Deguchi said after winning gold. "I'm very happy to bring the gold medal back to Canada, and to my family.
