Shericka Jackson has successfully defended her 100m national title.

The Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist in the 100m beat veteran teammate Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce on Friday night (28 June) at the Jamaican National Championships in Kingston, her 10.84 ahead of Tia Clayton at 10.90 in second and the 36-year-old Fraser-Pryce in third at 10.94.

All three women are expected to be named to Jamaica's always-dangerous sprints team for the coming Olympic Games Paris 2024.*

Jackson is the two-time and reigning world champion in the 200m, as well, while Fraser-Pryce three-time Olypmic champion Fraser-Pryce has previously said Paris would be her final Games having made her debut at Beijing 2008.

It's a third straight 100m national title for Jackson, who is hoping to do much the same in the 200m.

In the men's 100m, Kishane Thompson continued his impressive weekend in Kingston, powering to a 9.77, easing up at the finish to beat Oblique Seville, who was second at 9.82. Ackeem Blake rounded out the top three with another sub-10 time, 9.92.

Two-time and reigning Olympic 100m and 200m champion Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica announced her withdrawal from Paris earlier this week due to an Achilles injury at the NYC Grand Prix in early June.

More to come.

As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at the Paris Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.
