Neeraj Chopra plans to address recurring adductor muscles issue post Paris 2024 Olympics
The Olympic champion was forced to miss the Ostrava Golden Spike as a precaution against the issue but returned to action with a gold medal in Finland this week.
Indian javelin throw ace Neeraj Chopra plans to address his recurring adductor muscles issue, but not before his impending title defence at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The adductors are a group of muscles situated on the inner thighs and run from the pelvic bone to the knee. These muscles allow the hip and leg to move inwards to keep the torso steady.
Chopra, the reigning Olympic and world champion, was forced to pull out of the Ostrava Golden Spike meet in Czechia last month as a precautionary measure after feeling something in his adductors during a training session.
“Every year I have some problems with my adductor, maybe after the Olympics I am going to talk to different doctors,” Chopra was quoted as saying by PTI.
However, the 26-year-old Neeraj Chopra returned to action at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland on Tuesday. The Asian Games champion secured his maiden Paavo Nurmi Games gold medal in men’s javelin throw with an effort of 85.97m on his third attempt.
"The weather was good today, a little bit cold with the wind. But I am happy with my adductor now because I could do all six throws," Chopra said after the win.
The Paavo Nurmi Games was Chopra’s third appearance of the 2024 season, which began with a second-place finish at the Doha Diamond League where the world champion recorded a throw of 88.36m.
Chopra secured a best effort of 82.27m at the National Federation Cup 2024 in India to take the top spot on his return to domestic competitions for the first time since the Tokyo Olympics.
"Initially I wanted to compete more this season, but it was not possible due to my niggles," he added.
Neeraj Chopra is currently training in Europe along with his coach Klaus Bartonietz and physio Ishaan Marwaha ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
"I came from Kuortane and will now head to Saarbrücken, Germany and maybe to Turkiye just before the Olympics. I will try to stay healthy in the next few weeks, because then I will throw my best throws," he added.
Chopra is expected to compete at the Paris Diamond League on July 7 next.
