After taking team silver at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Jordan Chiles is looking good for her shot at a return trip to the Games after a strong opening night in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Gymnastics.

On night one (28 June) of competition, Chiles was on fire. She took second place, only behind the most decorated gymnast of all time, Simone Biles.

Chiles kicked off the night with a rock solid routine on the uneven bars to score 14.350 and wrap up the first rotation in third place. She maintained that spot through the end of the third rotation, before her vault score (14.325) solidified her a second-place finish.

Her final night one score was 56.400.

Ahead of night one of the trials, Chiles told media, “I think personally, with Olympic trials, this is the toughest meet you'll do…it's very stressful.”

"I literally was saying this earlier this morning. I was like, 'No matter what I've done in my life, this is the most stressful one I've done in my whole entire career, because...you make it or you don't*,'"* Chiles told a swarm of reporters afterward.

But, she hardly let that stress get to her as she danced between rotations, even getting an entire section of the crowd on their feet, clapping to Miley Cyrus’ Party in the USA after nailing her floor routine.

“The key is, honestly, just what I always say is just to have fun, go out there and do as best as you can, you know, and just enjoy. It's a ride to remember for sure.”

And night one will definitely be a night to remember for Chiles, whose victory, she said, is even sweeter “knowing that there were people who did doubt me."

“It fueled me in a way that I can just be like, you know what? Like, I'm just going to go out here and be me, and be the best Jordan I can be."

I'm that girl,” her season motto, she laughed.

That confidence and pride in herself has begun to trickle down as her status on the team shifts to that of a certified veteran, according to her coach, Cecile Landi, who said that **“**it's Jordan and Simone…they really want the best for each other.”

The first and second place finishers have been teammates since 2019, and if they are both named to the Olympic Team, this will be their second Games together. Before the kickoff of the competition, Chiles had nothing but love to share about her teammate.

“[Simone] is gonna do everything she can to make sure her goal in her dream is something that she fulfills 100%," she said. "That's just how she is.

“I'm just beyond proud of her...I mean, she has the GOAT written all over her.”

Women's night two will take place on Sunday (30 June) and at the conclusion of the night, the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be announced.

Chiles is excited.

"I think honestly, once you get out there and..you know what you're capable of doing...day two is a little easier because you're like, okay, I've done it once already, let's just do it again. So I'm really excited," she said.
