Three-time world champion Grant Holloway of the USA finally got his hands on an Olympic gold medal with a dominating win in the men’s 110m hurdles at Paris 2024 on Thursday, 8 August.

Holloway was the runaway winner, bursting over the line in a time of 12.99 seconds to claim the title. Compatriot Daniel Roberts finished behind him in second place in 13.09s for a USA 1-2 podium.

Jamaica’s Rasheed Broadbell produced a season’s best to claim the bronze medal with the same time as Roberts.

Holloway stepped up to the blocks as the man to beat after cruising into the final with the fastest times in the heats and the semi-finals. To highlight his dominance, Holloway was the only man to post sub-13 seconds times in Paris with a 12.98s from the semis and his winning time in the final.

But the American has seen this film before, heading into Tokyo 2020 as the resounding favourite as reigning world champion and boasting the second fastest time ever that he posted shortly before those Games. Holloway, however, had to be content with silver in Tokyo as Jamaica’s Hansle Parchment walkied away with the spoils three years ago.

The 26-year-old Holloway would not be denied this time around as he led the race from first to the 10th hurdle for a commanding victory.
