Get your paddles out! It’s time for the world’s best canoe athletes to battle on flatwater and whitewater at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

83 athletes will brave the whitewater at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium to test their technical ability and raw strength in canoe slalom from 27 July to 5 August, while 237 athletes will gather on the flatwater to flex their muscles and test their stroke rates in canoe sprint from 6 to 10 August.

The rough-and-tumble event of kayak cross, a new addition to the Olympic Games, is set to provide a dramatic and thrilling crescendo to the canoe slalom program, while K4 500m events will provide an equally compelling spectacle in canoe sprint with their synchronised strokes and close finishes.

Olympic champions will return to defend their medals, while promising newcomers attempt to create a legacy of their own.

Below, we take a closer look at the stars to watch out for in Paris, a full schedule, and how to watch the action.

Canoe stars to watch at Paris 2024 Olympics

German Olympic champion Ricarda Funk and C1 world champion Mallory Franklin will be among the favourites in the women's canoe slalom competition. Funk will try to defend her K1 gold medal, while Franklin will look to go one step better than the silver she won at Tokyo 2020 in the C1 event.

The men’s canoe slalom events will be headlined by Slovenian Olympic and world champion Benjamin Savơek (C1) and Czech sensation Jirí Prskavec (K1). French paddler Boris Neveu, a 16-time medalist at the world championships, will aim for home glory in the kayak cross event.

The women’s kayak events in canoe sprint will be headlined by another legendary figure: five-time Olympic champion Lisa Carrington.

She will aim to out paddle, out sprint and outright overpower her rivals at Paris 2024, searching for a trio of gold medals in the K1, K2 and K4 events.

Olympic champion Nevin Harrison of the United States of America will hope to add to her own legend in Paris by defending her gold medal in the women’s C1 200m. She will face a stiff challenge from Cuban world champion Yarisleidis Cirilo, however.

A trio of storied paddlers will also go head-to-head in the men’s C1 1000m. World champion Martin Fuksa will attempt to hold off Olympic champions Sebastian Brendel and Isaquias Queiroz in a test of strength, endurance and speed.

Germany will look to build on their history of success in canoe sprint, while rivals Hungary will look to Olympic champions BĂĄlint Kopasz and Danuta KozĂĄk to deliver their boats to the top step of the podium.
