The Asian Track Cycling Championships 2024, a qualifying event for the Paris Olympics, will start at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi on Wednesday.

A total of 22 elite Indian cyclists, led by Ronaldo Singh, David Beckham, Esow Alben and Rojit Singh, will vie for medals in track cycling events. Live streaming of the Asian Track Cycling Championships will be available in India.

The New Delhi meet also serves as the final qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Cyclists will collect ranking points for the Summer Games based on their performances.

Around 500 riders from 18 countries are expected to assemble at the New Delhi meet, which will also see competitions in the junior and para track cycling championships.

India will field a contingent of 42 cyclists across all categories. Two-time Olympic medallist Kevin Sireau of France is the chief coach of the Indian contingent.

At the 2023 edition held in Malaysia, Ronaldo Singh won a silver medal in the 1km individual time trial, a non-Olympic event, with a national record. It was India’s only medal at the edition.

At the 2022 Asian Track Cycling Championships in New Delhi, Ronaldo Singh won a silver medal in the men’s sprint. It was India’s first silver medal at the Asian championships.

Ronaldo Singh also won the bronze medal in the 1km individual time trial and was part of the bronze medal-winning Indian men’s sprint team, which also featured David Beckham and Rojit Singh.

India won nine medals - one silver and eight bronze - in 2022 for their best-ever finish at the continental meet.

The Asian Track Cycling Championships 2024, the 43rd edition of the continental meet, will conclude on Monday.
