Live streaming, Asian Olympic Qualifier Rifle and Pistol shooting: Indians eye Paris 2024 quotas - where to watch
While India have already secured all eight possible quotas in rifle events, only three are confirmed in pistol events so far. Watch live and get full schedule!
The Asian Olympic Qualifier Rifle and Pistol 2024 shooting event is scheduled to start at Jakarta, Indonesia from Monday.
The Paris 2024 Olympic qualifying event, which also doubles up as the 2024 Asia Shooting Championship for rifle and pistol shooters will conclude on January 18. India will be fielding 49 shooters at the meet.
Barring the Olympic rifle and pistol shooting disciplines, India will also be fielding athletes in non-Olympic events like 50m rifle prone for men and women, men’s 25m standard and centre fire pistol for the continental championships. Eight additional shooters have also been sent for the junior competitions.
The focus, however, will be on the eight individual Olympic disciplines - men’s and women’s 10m air pistol, men’s and women’s 10m air rifle, men’s and women’s 50m rifle 3 positions, men’s 25m rapid fire pistol and women’s 25m pistol - where Paris 2024 quotas will be on offer.
The top two shooters in each of these categories, provided they are eligible and their respective countries haven’t secured their full allocation for the event, will secure quotas for their respective country.
National Olympic Committees (NOCs) have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games and athletes' participation at the Paris Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.
With India having already secured its full allocation of eight quotas in rifle shooting, the onus will be on the pistol shooters to confirm more berths to this year’s Summer Games from Jakarta.
Indian shooters have so far won 13 quotas - eight in rifle, three in pistol and two in shotgun. A country can obtain a maximum of 24 quotas - eight each in rifle, pistol and shotgun events.
Sarabjot Singh (men’s 10m air pistol), Manu Bhaker (women’s 25m pistol) and Anish Bhanwala (men's 25m rapid fire pistol) are the three Indian pistol shooters who have already secured a quota.
Five more pistol quotas - one each in men’s 10m air pistol, women’s 25m pistol and men’s 25m rapid fire pistol and two in women’s 10m air pistol - are still up for grabs.
However, Indian pistol shooters can secure a maximum of four quotas from the Jakarta meet as rules state that a country can secure only one quota place in an event in any designated ISSF championship.
India’s pistol contingent at Jakarta will be headlined by Esha Singh, Rhythm Sangwan, Rahi Sarnobat, Gurpreet Singh, Arjun Singh Cheema and Vijayveer Sidhu.
Former world champion Rudrankksh Patil, Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Asian Games champion Sift Kaur Samra are in India's rifle squad and will be gunning for continental glory.
