Did you know Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are the two oldest living cultures in the world?
Or that Queensland is the only place in Australia where both Indigenous cultures meet?
The Olympics and Paralympic Games Brisbane 2032 is an opportunity to not only witness sporting heroes on the world stage, but to hear the stories of Traditional Custodians, to learn and to celebrate their vibrant and timeless cultures, from Meanjin (Brisbane) to our golden coastline, the Great Barrier Reef, and beyond.
As we welcome the world to our shores, visitors will have the opportunity to experience our unique cultures first-hand.
From the Torch Relay and Opening Ceremony to our vibrant closing events, The Olympic and Paralympic Games Brisbane 2032 will showcase the diversity and talent of First Nations communities, leaving a legacy that will continue to shine bright for generations to come.
Embracing First Nations culture and participation is at the core of the Games. Brisbane 2032 will engage with Traditional Custodians in Host and Co-Host Cities, and throughout the procurement and recruitment processes to provide meaningful opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander athletes, young people and their communities to achieve at their full potential.
The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee will be the first in Olympic and Paralympic history to deliver a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
Brisbane 2032’s vision for reconciliation is for the Games to elevate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the health of First Nations communities economically, socially, emotionally and physically in the lead up to the Games and beyond.
We are committed to ensuring First Nations peoples, cultures, heritage, knowledge, sporting prowess and achievements are highlighted, understood, respected and appreciated as part of Brisbane 2032 planning and preparation.
We embrace the responsibility of hosting a global event on First Nations lands and are dedicated to ensuring the Games leave a positive legacy that honours First Nations peoples as the Traditional Custodians of these lands.
At Brisbane 2032, we are focussed on creating a culturally sensitive and inclusive organisation where First Nations voices are amplified, cultural wisdom and knowledge is sought after, fruitful engagement with community builds social cohesion, and mutually beneficial partnerships are forged.
We aspire to build meaningful relationships with First Nations organisations and Elders to ensure our reconciliation efforts are guided by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and perspectives. Through consultation and collaboration, we aim to incorporate First Nations knowledge and wisdom into decision-making processes, strengthening relationships, building trust, and ensuring that reconciliation efforts are culturally appropriate and respectful.
We are committed to walking this path with intention, respect and a collaborative spirit, ensuring a unifying spirit and collaboration between First Nations and non-First Nations peoples.
Development of the Brisbane 2032 Reflect RAP is currently underway and will be implemented in 2025.
Brisbane 2032 will create a safe, inclusive platform for social change – because everyone deserves the freedom to be at their best.
An Olympic and Paralympic Games that delivers a lasting positive social, environmental and economic impact on Queensland, Australia and beyond.
