Vilém Goppold z Lobsdorfu, Jr. was the son of Vilém Goppold z Lobsdorfu, Sr., who competed for Bohemia at the 1908 and 1912 Olympics. Goppold z Lobsdorfu, Jr. later settled in Germany where he married a German woman, became a lawyer, and changed his name to the German equivalent of Wilhelm. He also supported the Germans during World War II which led to an estrangement between he and his father, although Goppold z Lobsdorfu, Jr. spoke at a memorial service for his father at their fencing club, CSK Riegel.
