个人信息

Mary O’Neill fenced at Concord-Carlisle High School in Massachusetts alongside Caitlin Bilodeaux, and together they would eventually compete at both the 1988 and 1992 Olympics. O’Neill went to the University of Pennsylvania, while Bilodeaux went to Columbia, both in the Ivy League. O’Neill was NCAA Champion in 1984, while Bilodeaux won in 1985 and 1987. During her college career O’Neill led Penn to the Ivy League title all four years, and as a senior, they won the NCAA team title. The Lajos Csiszar Trophy, given to the Ivy League women’s champion team, was modeled after O’Neill who posed for it for sculptor Timothy Maslin.

After the 1988 Olympics O’Neill entered Harvard Medical School. She took time off, however, to train for the 1992 Olympics. She did her residency in radiology at Mass General Hospital, and stayed on staff there until 2006, with a sub-specialty of vascular and interventional radiology, when she moved to Beverly Hospital on the North Shore of Massachusetts.
