个人信息

Short track speed skater Mark Lackie’s first major win came at the 1987 Canada Games when he finished first in the 800m event and third in the 400m and 1500m competitions. The following year he won a gold medal in the 500m event at the 1988 World Championships. At the 1991 World Championships, he was narrowly edged out of first place in the 1,500m event by Marc Gagnon and tied Andy Gabel for first place in the 500m competition. His next stop was the 1992 Winter Olympics, where short track speed skating was an official part of the program for the first time. He finished 7th in the 1000m event, but took home a silver medal for his efforts in the 3,000m relay. His next achievement was breaking the world record in the 500m on April 3rd of that year, with a time of 43,43 at the World Championships. It would last for almost an entire year before it was broken on March 27, 1993 by Mirko Vuillermin. He retired from active competition in 1993 and in 2000 was inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame.
