Józef Stogowski was a Polish ice hockey goaltender, who competed in three Olympic Winter Games. He was part of the Polish team that won silver medals at the 1929 and 1931 European Championships the latter as part of the World Championships. From 1927-38 Stogowski played a total of 70 international matches for Poland. He was Poland’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the 1932 Winter Games in Lake Placid. He also competed in six World Championships and four separately held European Championships, winning silver medals in 1929 and 1931. During his club career Stogowski played for TKS Toruń, Legia Warszawa and AZS Poznan. Before he concentrated on ice hockey he competed in athletics (mainly sprints), tennis, and martial arts. He also played football (soccer) as one of the best Polish midfielders for Vistula Torun and TKS Torun.

As a volunteer Stogowski was involved in the Polish-Bolshevik War in 1920-21, following World War I, and was awarded a medal for bravery. After he retired from the military, he worked as a clerk for an insurance company. In 1940 he died in his hometown of Toruń from an illness after an injury in a hockey game one year earlier. Stogowski was only 40-years-old.
