John LeClair played left wing for 16 years in the NHL, starting out with the Montréal Canadiens, then playing 9½ years with the Philadelphia Flyers, and finishing with two years with the Pittsburgh Penguins. LeClair played in high school at the Bellows Free Academy in Vermont, and then skated at the University of Vermont in the Eastern College Athletic Conference for four years. After being drafted by the Canadiens, he also played a few games with the Fredericton Canadiens of the American Hockey League. LeClair got his name on the Stanley Cup in 1993 while playing with the Montréal Canadiens. During his career he was twice named first-team NHL All-Star (1995, 1998), three times was on the second team (1996-97, 1999), and he played in five NHL All-Star Games. In 1996-97, LeClair led the NHL in plus/minus with a +44 for the season. Internationally, he played for the United States at the 1998 and 2002 Olympic Winter Games, the 1988 and 1989 World Junior Championships, and the 1997 World Cup. He was inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009. He has his own charitable organization, the John LeClair Foundation, that awards grants to Vermont non-profit organizations that sponsor programs for children.
