个人信息

In addition to his silver medal in the relay at the 1936 Olympics, John Macionis of Yale swam in the 400m freestyle in Berlin, but failed to qualify for the final. His greatest swimming moment came at the 1935 AAU outdoor championships when he won the 440y free, beating such luminaries as Jack Medica, Ralph Flanagan, and James Gilhula, all of whom were world record holders at varying freestyle distances. Macionis served during World War II as a Lieutenant Commander in the Coast Guard, and was later an executive in the dairy industry near Philadelphia. He became a swimming official, officiating at meets for over 50 years. He also continued to compete in masters’ swimming events and swam for exercise into his 90s.
