个人信息

As a defenseman with the Winnipeg Hockey Club, Hugh Sutherland won the Allan Cup, given annually to the Canadian men’s senior amateur hockey champions, and was afforded an opportunity to attend the 1932 Winter Olympics as a representative of Canada. At the tournament, where his team would end up taking home gold, he played in six games and scored one goal. He had previously played for Elmwood midget and junior teams, most notably the Millionaires, from 1922-1927, as well as a senior year with the Winnipeg Grain Exchange, before joining the Winnipegs in 1929. He was signed by the Minneapolis Millers of the American Hockey League in 1930, but did not play any games. After the Olympics, he played three seasons with the Selkirk Fishermen, one more with the Winnipegs, and a final one with the Winnipeg Brokers, before retiring in 1937. In the 1970s, he was the director of the Silver Stick Hockey Tournament in Sarnia, Ontario. As a member of the 1931 Winnipegs, he was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
