个人信息

Art Griffiths took up rowing at the age of sixteen and, within two years, was already winning races as a single sculler. World War II interrupted his career, however, and he signed up with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943. Upon his demobilization in 1946, he joined Hamilton, Ontario’s Leander Boat Club and took up the sport once more. In 1948, as national champions, the team was chosen to represent Canada at that year’s Summer Olympics, where Griffiths was eliminated in the semi-finals alongside Peter Green, Robert Christmas, Alfred Stefani, Marvin Hammond, Jack Zwierewich, Bill McConnell, Ron Cameron, and Walt Robertson. Four years later, he was a member of the Leander squad that won the Canadian championships in the coxless fours. This led to his second Olympic appearance at the 1952 Games, where, with Zwierewich, Cameron, and Lloyd Montour, he was eliminated in the round one repêchage. He retired from active competition in 1954, although he remained athletically active in golf into his late 80s.
