British Cartoonist George Loraine Stampa was born in Constantinople (nowadays İstanbul) as the son of an architect. He studied at the Heatherley's School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools between 1895 and 1900. Inspired by the work of Phil May, G. L. Stampa began contributing to Punch Magazine in 1895.
Stampa’s cartoons appeared in the magazine for over half a decade. He also worked for the Daily Graphic, The Bystander, The Strand Magazine, The Tatler and The Windsor Magazine. Books by Stampa include Loud Laughter (1907), Ragamuffins (1916), Humours of the Streets and In Praise of Dogs (1948). He also designed posters for the Underground Group and London Transport from 1920-44.
