个人信息

George Karrys played soccer growing up and dreamed of becoming a professional player but, after years of pressure from his friends, he agreed to try curling and instantly fell in love. By then it was 1982 and Karrys was 15 but, by 1986, he was competing at the national level in Canada as a junior. In the early 1990s he joined Mike Harris’ rink (team) and, in a surprise victory, they won the Olympic qualifying event in 1997, which sent them to represent their country at the 1998 Winter Olympics. At the tournament Karrys was lead and the team took home a silver medal, losing only to Switzerland in the final match. He remained with the Harris rink after teammates Richard Hart and Collin Mitchell left for Team Glenn Howard in 2000, but retired from active play in 2003. In 2001 he served as a technical advisor to the Canadian comedy film “Men with Brooms”. He is now the World Curling Federation officer for media relations and owns “The Curling News”, a premiere publication on the sport. He is also involved with charitable organizations, such as the KidSports program of Ontario that helps children of lesser means become involved in sports.
