Fridrikh Maryutin started to play football with Zenit Korolyov before the World War Two. In 1941, during the war, his family moved to Yekaterinburg, where Maryutin worked as a turner in the factory and also played football with a local club Kalininets. In 1946 Maryutin joined Zenit Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) and played there until 1956. With Zenit Leningrad Maryutin never won a medal from the Soviet Championships, their best places being fifth in 1949 and 1953. In 1954 they also reached the semifinals of Soviet Cup, where they lost to eventual winner Dynamo Kiev. Maryutin finished his playing career in 1957-1958 with Admiralteyets Leningrad. Internationally, Maryutin only capped one time with Soviet national team, at the 1952 Olympics, when Soviet Union and Yugoslavia played 5:5 draw in the first round. After finishing his playing career, Maryutin worked as a football coach in St. Petersburg, being the coach of local clubs Admiralteyets and Zenit and head coach of local clubs SKA, LOMO and Komsomolets. He also worked as a children’s coach with sports school Zenit.
