Having won the AAU high hurdles in 1903, Fred Schule, of the University of Michigan, took the Olympic gold the following year. Schule later earned a graduate degree in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin. He became a chemist, working for several chemical firms, including Kentucky Laboratories, Norwich Pharmacy, and Bristol Laboratories.
