Czech František Hoplíček was the uncle of Karel Hoplíček who took part in the 1936 Nazi Games as a shot putter. František himself was a participant in the 1920 Antwerp Games as a discus thrower where he was eliminated in qualifying. He later brought ice hockey to his hometown of Olomouc. Hoplíček then became a painter and printmaker, and took part in the 1932 Art Competitions in Los Angeles. He studied in Praha, Wien, Manchester and Antwerpen, and was one of the co-founders of the Club of Friends of Art in Olomouc, and painted motifs of his wife Hana, folk genre scenes, portraits and landscapes.
