Alfred Nichols was the winner of the Essex and Kent county titles at 1 and 3 miles. His best performance at the AAA Championships was second place in the 4 miles in 1914. Earlier in the year he won the International Cross-Country race in his first and only appearance in the event. He was one of a number of Surrey AC athletes employed by Ted Vowles in his East London shirt factory.
Personal Bests: Mile – 4:21.0 (1918); 2 miles – 9:34.8 (1917); 3 miles – 15:11.0 (1921); 5000 – 15:54.0 (1920).
