General Interest

General
Japan were awarded a place in the 2020 Olympic Games men's team recurve event as hosts. The Japanese are making their sixth Olympic appearance in Tokyo and their first since the 2012 Games in London, where they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by the US team that went on to win silver.

The Japanese team have found medals hard to come by on the world stage. After winning silver at the world championships in 1975 and bronze in 1977, their only other medal at the tournament came in 2009 when they also claimed bronze. At the 2019 World Championships in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, they were defeated by Great Britain in the second elimination round.

Japan claimed gold at the 1978 Asian Games and a trio of silver medals from 1986 to 1994, but they have not finished on the podium since. At the 2018 Games in Indonesia, the Japanese team were beaten 6-0 by eventual champions Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals.
