In principle, the same local municipalities will manage the Olympic Torch Relay segments. But the planned route overview, the order of the municipalities, the location of celebration sites and other details may change in the future, depending on the coordination with the parties involved.
Places of interest in Gunma
The Gunma leg of the Torch Relay begins in the eastern city of Tatebayashi and will journey through the central area of the prefecture. From there, it will make its way to the city of Maebashi where a celebration will take place at the end of the first day. On the second day, the Torch Relay will leave the city of Shibukawa, travelling through the areas of Tone-Numata and Agatsuma and the western area of the prefecture, before arriving in the city of Takasaki for a celebration.
Some of the sites the torch will visit on its journey across Gunma include: the World Heritage Site Tomioka Silk Mill in the city of Tomioka. The Torch Relay will also visit Kusatsu Onsen hot springs, Yamba Dam in the town of Naganohara and the village of Ueno.
