The Wakayama Prefecture Paralympic Flame Festival will feature a flame lighting ceremony and departure ceremony at the Tanabe Sports Park Gymnasium in Tanabe City, which is a hub for the promotion of Paralympic athletics. The Paralympic flame was lit at a fire festival that was held in Hirogawa Town on 19 October, 2019 as a symbol of reconstruction, and will be sent to Tokyo as the Fire of Inamura (meaning a 'burning stack of rice straw') as the Wakayama Prefecture Paralympic flame.

Highlights of the festival will include performances by local high school brass bands, to impart a sense of expectation for the flame lighting and departure ceremonies. After the end of the festival, participants will be able to experience Paralympic sports. It is hoped that by giving residents this opportunity that they will come to understand how difficult and easy parasports are, and build enthusiasm for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
