The Mie Prefecture Paralympic Flame Festival will feature flame lighting in all 29 cities and towns throughout the prefecture, followed by a flame gathering ceremony at the Mie Center for the Arts, which is a cultural facility located in Tsu City, the prefectural capital, before the Paralympic flame departs for Tokyo.

Flame lighting highlights will include Ama woman divers, which was the first nationally important intangible folk-cultural property to be designated in Japan, the use of fire from the 2000 year-old historical and cultural monument Ise Shrine and famous kilns/potteries that produce traditional earthenware, and other unique and appealing methods of flame lighting employed by each municipalities, such as events using fire conducted at special needs schools or facilities at which people with impairments work.

The fire gathering ceremony, at which the 29 flames from throughout the prefecture will be brought together, and the departure ceremony will build enthusiasm for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in every part of Mie Prefecture.

Flame visits 

The Paralympic flame will visit mainly government buildings, sports and cultural facilities, and welfare facilities in a number of cities and towns throughout the prefecture.
