In Kagoshima Prefecture, a flame lighting ceremony will be carried out on the morning of Thursday 12 August at the Prefectural office in Kagoshima City, and on the afternoon of Monday 16 August a departure ceremony will be held in the same location.

In addition, flame visits will be carried out from the afternoon of Thursday 12 August until the morning of Monday 16 August.

In keeping with the history of Kagoshima Prefecture as the place where guns were first introduced into Japan, people involved in the preservation of Tanegashima matchlock muskets will light the flame using flint at the flame lighting ceremony.

The departure ceremony will see the Kagoshima representative raise the torch, declare departure, and send the Paralympic flame on its way to Tokyo, the host city.

The Paralympic flame will visit large-scale facilities, etc., for people with impairments throughout the prefecture, and in addition to being placed on display, 30 cities, towns and villages in the prefecture will exhibit the flame in their own unique way.
