Team USA's wheelchair racing superstar Tatyana McFadden couldn't claim a 1500m T54 golden threepeat but the 19-time medallist isn't finished with the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics yet.

Tatyana McFadden's dominance in the Paralympic 1500m wheelchair race was ended on Tuesday (31 August 2021).

The American was beaten into fifth in the 1500m T54 final , after a searing race in a stacked field.

China's ZHOU Zhaoqian emerged victorious with a personal best time of 3:27.63 while Swiss speedster Manuela Schaer won silver in 3:28.01 and Australia's Madison de Rozario claimed bronze in 3:28.24.

Fourth place belonged to Merle Menje from Germany, 0.4s behind De Rosario, with McFadden fifth timing 3:28.85.

Zhou backs up qualifying performance with win

The 23-year-old Zhou had warned of her intentions in the heats a day earlier, when she came second to McFadden in their qualifier, finishing just 0.16s behind her U.S. rival.

The American was aiming for a 1500m threepeat following gold medal performances at Rio 2016 and London 2012, and missing out on the podium means she remain on 19 Paralympic medals.

McFadden has already won silver in the 800m and bronze in the 5000m in Tokyo and has two more races to come.
