Purpose of the Sponsorship Programme
The Tokyo 2020 Sponsorship Programme is being conducted for the purposes and goals shown below. Games' Sponsors will contribute to a richer future for Japan and the world through a wide variety of measures, including contributing to the efficient administration and delivery of the Games, and programmes aimed at enhancing the international competitiveness of Japanese athletes.
The structure of the Olympic Marketing Programme consists of The Worldwide Olympic Partners, which are positioned at the pinnacle of the structure managed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Directly beneath the The Worldwide Olympic Partners are local sponsors of each National Olympic Committee (NOC) and Games' sponsors of the Organising Committee of Olympic Games (OCOG).
The IOC tasks the host city with establishing a "joint marketing" structure to ensure the success of the Olympic Games. The Tokyo 2020 Marketing Programme involves the JOC with transferring its Olympic-related marketing assets (logos, designations and other Olympic imagery licensed from the IOC) to the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, which in turn has the right to permit the use of these Olympic-related assets to prospective Games' Sponsors.
The Tokyo 2020 Sponsorship Programme commences on 1 January 2015, after conclusion of the Sponsorship Agreement, and runs until 31 December 2020. The programme consists of three separate categories (Tiers 1, 2 and 3).
∗ The region of sponsorship is limited to Japan. Terms and conditions of sponsorship differ according to the category (Tier)
∗ Participants in the Tokyo 2020 Sponsorship Programme are required to sponsor both the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020
