ROC have secured a clean sweep of the artistic swimming events at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 winning gold in the team event at Tokyo Aquatics Centre.
ROC have been crowned Olympic champions in the artistic swimming team event with a score of 196.0979 at Tokyo 2020.
Performing "Parade of the Planets", ROC came out in a space-themed costume with their free routine featuring plenty of incredible and interesting sections.
Their score of 98.8000 was the top mark of the day and came after a strong technical routine score (97.2310) yesterday, where they also topped the standings.
"That was a really hard year, two years, and too much crying, too much working," Vlada Chigireva said. "We are really happy that we are here.
"Every day we are smiling that we are here in the Aquatics Centre, in the Olympic Village, and we want to say to all Japanese people that we love you."
The gold marked team member Svetlana Romashina's record seventh Olympic gold medal. The only athletes who have won at least seven Olympic gold medals without ever claiming silver or bronze are Usain Bolt, Ray Ewry and Caeleb Dressel.
"I can't say that they're different, but I can say that the sixth and the seventh medal were the difficult-est in my life," Romashina said. "I became a mother and it was very difficult to be a mother and athlete at one moment.
"I'm very, very happy about this medal. I understand that it will be my last Olympic Games as an athlete. I understand that maybe it's my last competition. I don't know yet, but maybe."
"I just want to have a rest now. It was a crazy two years, and I just want to be with my family now.
People's Republic of China, who performed last, clinched silver (193.5310) and Ukraine picked up their second bronze medal in artistic swimming - Marta Fiedina and Anastasiya Savchuk won bronze in the duet earlier in the week.
The result is exactly the same finishing at the duet event as ROC came away with gold with China taking silver and Ukraine with the bronze.
