France wins silver with Fiji beating Great Britain to claim bronze.

New Zealand women's rugby sevens put to bed the ghost of Rio 2016 where they lost to Australia in the final. Seven of the team that were in that final are back in Tokyo and have but have put that right by winning gold against France.

Tries from Michaela Blyde, Gayle Broughton, Stacey Fluhler, and Tyla Nathan-Wong lead the Kiwis to a 26–12 win.

Caroline Drouin and Anne-Cecile Ciofani scored consolation tries for France.

In the bronze medal match Fiji beat Team GB 21–12 to clinch the third Olympic medal in their history, all in this sport.
