Pat Boot won a gold medal in the 880 yds at the 1938 British Empire Games and added a bronze medal in the 1 mile that year. In 1938 he ran a half-mile in 1:51.2 in Sydney, Australia, which was a new British Empire record. He was New Zealand Champion in the 880 yards in 1936 and 1938-40, and in the mile in 1936, placing second in 1939. Boot died while under anesthesia for a dental operation.
