Singh SINGH

A trap and skeet shooter, Randhir Singh competed at five Olympics from 1968-84, always in the trap event. He won national titles in both trap and skeet shooting, and also competed at four Asian Games, winning a gold medal in 1978. He comes from an athletic family, with his uncle, Maharaja Yadavindra Singh, a test cricketer for India, and his father, Raja Bjalindra Singh, was an IOC Member from 1947-92. Randhir Singh was awarded an honorary D.Litt. in sports science from Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical.

In 1987 Singh became secretary-general of the Indian Olympic Association. He was made secretary-general of the Olympic Council of Asia of 1991. He helped bring the 2010 Commonwealth Games to India and served as vice-chairman of the organizing committee. In 2002 he was named to the Executive Board of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC). Singh founded and was secretary-general of the short-lived Afro-Asian Games Council, serving from 1998-2007, and helped organize the only Afro-Asian Games, held in Hyderabad in 2003. In 1997 he was the recipient of the Arjuna Award, one of India's highest civilian awards.

Singh was nominated to the IOC in 2001. He was also a member of the WADA Foundation Board from 2003-05. On the IOC, he has served on the following commissions: Olympic Games Study (2002–03); Sport for All (appointed 2004); Women and Sport (appointed 2006); Coordination for the 1st Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010 (2008-10); and the Olympic Truce Foundation (appointed 2007).
