Биография

Long-distance runner Manfred Letzerich participated in three consecutive Olympic Games (1964-72). In 1964 he was eliminated in the 5K, in 1968 he finished 19th in the final of the 10K, and four years later he was again eliminated in the heats. At the 1966 European Championships Letzerich placed fourth in the 10K and fifth in the steeplechase. In 1965 and 1967 he also took part in the European Cup.

In 1969 Letzerich was nominated for the 1969 European Championships but due to a West German boycott could not start. Domestically he won seven West German titles between 1965 and 1970. In 1983 he was awarded the Silver Needle of the German Track and Field Association. Letzerich was married to non-Olympian sprinter Erika Dirnberger. He was educated as a turner.

Personal Bests: 5000 – 13:42.2 (1971); 10000 – 28:14.41 (1972).
