Wrestler Kurt Leucht won the Greco-Roman bantamweight gold medal at the 1928 Amsterdam Games and in 1931 was the silver medalist in the Greco-Roman European Championships. He won both individual and team titles at the 1926 German National Championships. Leucht retired from the sport in 1932 after losing in the Olympic qualifiers to Jakob Brendel, who would go on and win the Olympic title. After his retirement, Leucht went on to become an international referee.
In 1928 his hometown Nuremberg planned a great welcome on his return as Olympic champion. But due to a knee injury he returned a day earlier. When he read in the newspaper about his planned welcome, he travelled back to Fürth in a taxi in his Olympic clothes and from there he took the train to Nuremberg to enjoy the welcome ceremony.
