Биография

Three-time Olympic javelin thrower Hermann Salomon finished 12th both at the 1960 Roma Olympics and the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, but was eliminated in the qualifying round at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He also came in 12th at the 1962 Europeans and was eliminated in qualifying four years later. He was West German javelin champion in 1960, 1962-64, and 1967-68, also winning the international pentathlon in 1959-62.

After World War II Salomon was expelled from his birth place of Danzig (Gdańsk), later in Poland. In 1971 he was awarded the Rudolf Harbig Memorial Award, and the DLV needle in gold in 1988. He later became professor of philology and sports science at the University of Mainz. Salomon was married to basketball player Hannelore Dreher.
