Биография

Dieter Fromm reached the Olympic finals of the 800 m in 1968 (6th) and 1972 (8th) and was on the East German 4 x 400 m relay team in 1968. Two weeks before the Montréal Games he sustained an Achilles tendon rupture and retired from athletics. In 1969 Fromm was European Champion at 800 m, while in 1971 he was runner-up and in 1973 placed eighth. He was third in the 1973 European Cup and second in 1975. Domestically he earned 10 national titles and recorded one indoor world record in 1969 (1:46.6). His son Alexander married sprinter Uta Rohländer in 1999.

Dieter Fromm later was employed in coaching at Erfurt (1976-90) by the East German Athletics Association DVfL, coaching among others Nils Schumann.
