Bas van Duivenbode fought in the light-middleweight division at the Rome Olympics, but was eliminated in the second round by Scotsman Willie Fisher. Turning pro the next year, he gradually moved into the heavyweight class. In 1971, he twice fought Rudie Lubbers for the Dutch heavyweight title, but lost on both occasions. In 1964, Van Duivenbode had been awarded the Dutch light-heavyweight title, based on his fight results. Following his boxing career, Van Duivenbode moved into the trotting horse business. As a horse owner, he was involved in that sport for several decades.
